The historiography and understanding of Iran’s past architecture have undergone many changes in recent decades as a result of developments that have taken place in the historiography of art and architecture at the global level. These changes have not been seriously reflected in the education and research of architecture and art in Iran. In this course, we will critique the dominant approaches in Iran and introduce new approaches to the historiography and interpretation of Iranian architecture, especially in the post-Islamic period. These developments originated from the use of new humanities approaches, postcolonial historiography, and the scholarly participation of native researchers active in European countries.
